Dr. Darius Stone Orton 1841-1918

Dr. of medicine. Born Fairhaven, Vermont 1/7/1841.
Attended common schools, also Hudson River Institute in Claverack, NY from 1856 to the start of the Civil War. Joined Co. I, 10th Cavalry August 28, 1861 as Corporal. Served until 1865, mostly hospital duty. Apparently attended Georgetown University near Washington, DC while in service, as he was granted his diploma and MD from Albany Medical College on 12/24/1866. Settled in Fish House in 1869.
Member Masonic Order at Fish House in 1870, and by 1893 was an officer and Past Master of the Lodge. Served as county Coroner. He was a trustee and Elder of the Fishhouse Presbyterian Church in 1892.
Dr. Orton is buried in the Northampton Cemetery in Fulton County, NY
